What is the Pokémon Randomizer Generator?
The Pokémon Randomizer Generator is a free, browser-based tool that lets you roll random Pokémon for your team, challenges, or just for fun. It runs entirely in your browser and pulls live data from the PokéAPI, so every sprite, type, base stat, and ability you see is accurate and up to date. You don’t need to create an account, and nothing is saved — refresh the page and you start fresh. Whether you’re doing a Nuzlocke run, building a casual squad with friends, or just curious which Pokémon you’d get, this tool gives you a quick and easy way to randomize.

Using the generator is simple. Here’s the full flow:
- Pick your generations. You can toggle Gen 1 through Gen 9 on or off. Want only Kanto and Johto? Just deselect the rest.
- Filter by type if you want. Choose one or more of the 18 types. If you leave them all unselected, every type is included.
- Toggle special categories. Use the switches to include or exclude Legendary, Mythical, and Mega Evolution Pokémon. By default, Legendary and Mythical are on, and Mega is off.
- Choose a mode. Single gives you one random Pokémon. Full Team builds a balanced squad of six. Nuzlocke gives you one encounter per route, tracking what you’ve already seen.
- Hit Generate Random. The tool builds a filtered pool from the PokéAPI, rolls randomly, fetches the details, and shows them on cards.
Randomizer Modes Explained
Single Mode
Single mode is perfect when you just want one random Pokémon. It’s great for quick challenges, a random starter, or a surprise pick for your next battle.
Full Team Mode
Full Team mode rolls six Pokémon at once. The tool samples a random batch first, then tries to avoid duplicate primary types so your squad feels more balanced. It’s ideal for drafting a team for casual play, a randomizer run, or a friendly tournament.
Nuzlocke Encounter Mode
Nuzlocke mode gives you one encounter per route. Each time you generate, it increments the route counter and shows the route number on the card. It also remembers which Pokémon you’ve already seen, so you won’t get duplicates until you’ve cleared the entire pool. That makes it perfect for Nuzlocke challenges where every route gives you a single catch.
Filter Options in Detail
The filters give you fine control over what can appear. Generation toggles let you limit the pool to specific eras, from Gen 1 all the way to Gen 9. Type filters let you pick one or more of the 18 types — if you select none, all types are allowed. The Legendary and Mythical switches let you include or exclude those special categories. The Mega Evolution switch is off by default; turn it on if you want Mega forms in the mix. Keep in mind that combining too many filters can narrow the pool a lot, so if you get an empty result, try widening your selections.
Understanding the Pokémon Display Cards
Each result appears on a clean card that shows everything you need at a glance. You get the official sprite (animated when available), the Pokémon’s name, its National Dex number, type badges, a compact base-stat preview with six stats (HP, ATK, DEF, SPA, SPD, SPE), and its primary ability. In Nuzlocke mode, you’ll also see a route tag in the corner. The cards are responsive, so they look great on phones, tablets, and desktops.
Export and Sharing Options
Once you’ve generated a team, you have three ways to keep or share it. The Copy Team button copies a formatted text list to your clipboard. The Download Image button creates a PNG image of your team cards, complete with sprites, names, types, abilities, and stats. The Export Text button downloads a plain text file with the same information. These options make it easy to share your random squad on social media, in Discord, or with friends.
Tips for Using the Randomizer
- If you want a true Nuzlocke experience, leave Mega Evolution off and keep Legendary and Mythical on — or turn them off for extra challenge.
- For a balanced team, use Full Team mode and let the tool avoid duplicate primary types.
- If you’re stuck with an empty result, clear some type filters or enable more generations.
- Use Nuzlocke mode if you want each route to feel like a real encounter. The tool tracks your progress for you.
- Download the image after each generation to keep a visual record of your runs.
Nuzlocke Mode: How It Works and Why It’s Fun
Nuzlocke runs are all about embracing randomness and dealing with the consequences. In this tool, Nuzlocke mode gives you exactly one encounter per route. Each generate increments a route counter and shows it on the card. The tool also remembers which Pokémon you’ve already encountered, so you won’t see the same species twice until you’ve cleared the entire filtered pool. That means every route feels fresh, and you have to make the best of whatever you get. It’s a simple addition, but it makes the mode feel much more like a real Nuzlocke adventure.
Team Balancing Logic
In Full Team mode, the tool doesn’t just pick six random Pokémon and call it a day. It first samples a batch of candidates from your filtered pool, then tries to avoid duplicate primary types. That way, your team ends up with more type diversity, which generally makes for a more balanced and interesting squad. If it can’t find six unique primary types, it fills the remaining slots with the best available options.
Technical Notes
This tool relies on the PokéAPI, so you need an internet connection for it to work. It doesn’t store any data locally or on a server — everything is session-based. Sprites are loaded from the API, and the tool prefers animated showdown sprites when available, falling back to official artwork or static sprites. The layout is fully responsive, so it works on mobile, tablet, and desktop. No account, no cookies, no tracking.
